Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questions to Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
